For Ladies Only!

Annoyed man, grumbling; Questioning the equality that women demands For being made to stand up from a ladies seat, Questioning if it hurts differently, our feat? I smile to the situation, Creases on my forehead have long been gone I see those strangers staring at my legs, I see that man silently clicking my picture I get pinched at my back, Or a sudden hit on the track Because I am a girl, My body, I am taught to protect I cover my legs, Because I am a girl and I should dress properly I wear my bag pack in the front, Because I am a girl and I should protect my purity I look down from the man staring at my legs Because I am a girl and I am taught to behave like one That girl who was bending low, Must not have been giving you a better view A tummy ache, she must have been going through To hold her tummy, she must have bent low For she is a girl, to such wolverine eyes she should learn to grow For attracting such eyes, Her morals mus...

Thoughts on Karva Chauth!

Mehendi clad hands, And the sound of anklets Well-dressed wives And those beautifully decorated Puja plates Undergoing pain every month, Taking out those special nine months, We know no less of her strength; Yet she proves it once again Fasting for her man, Worshiping him and for his long life span I smile, smile at her strength Her list of sacrifices and its length! There suddenly is a hiccup, An inner voice looking for equality, Wondering if our culture had a day to worship wives and ladies, She who succumbs to wife beating would be raised of her stature Respect for her, even if it’s for a day will be realized When the wife prays for the longevity of her husband, Who prays for the long life of the wife? I wonder, I wonder!

A toast to my nation!

Among high raised buildings I stood, The crowd exchanging views on corruption Wearing the black dress that I perfectly fit in Toasting red wine for the nation, I suddenly feel ill placed, My mind hovering over other places, Not the perfect place to let my heart free, I miss the innocence and that banyan tree, red carpet walkers laughing on whats right and wrong, The orchestra did not seem to be playing my fav song. That little kid who begged me for her tummy, must not have seen this day, Being a victim of corrupt practices, She probably has a lot to say, Her voice may tremble, But she can state with facts Of all that we presume She has been through the cracks. My mind wants to be with her probably, Giving her confidence to move her tongue, Insouciantly dressed, My hair not made in the perfect bun. Silently would want to bring her up here, Then discuss views on corruption, Hearing those trembled voices, I would then like to...

To the media hear her cry!

Colors are bright red, blue and green She paved her way up through thick and thin, wearing her elegant  mekhela chadar  she introduces herself, she noticed the crowd giving her a wry grin, she places her  junbiri  right, fixing her  khupa  with a pin wondering what she said, where she went wrong Was it the name of the place that she belonged?   Being reviewed with skeptical eyes, Accepting humiliating cries, For daring to speak, she paid the price, Defending her culture she spoke once,twice,thrice.. Are Assamese outside Assam to bow their heads down? For all the wrong reasons we have the crown   Remembering sounds of raindrops on Assamtype roofs, Marching of Assam rifle troops, Roads lined with sewali  phul , Brahmaputra silently flowing through its heart, the place where she went to school You and I are no fool, The media is making its cream brulee, There has to be more to a culture she is...

A silent date with the moon!

Blowing my hair from behind, He playfully messed it all up Gave me the most innocent smile, there suddenly the chord struck I sat down in the varandah, wearing my most comfortable attire, Romancing the picturesque night sky, he gazed at me starry-eyed, Smiling away, I felt a lil shy  I dedicated him the most romantic number, he played the music from behind The cool wind kissing my cheeks, he shone over me the most romantic light  Blushfully I turned to look the other way suddenly felt soft drizzles over me, Closing my eyes I looked up at him Hiding behind the cloud he dimmed the scene Licking the raindrop from my lip, I slowly opened my eye He showed himself to me again This time wearing his naughty smile The stars continued teasing us, His dimpled chin did not stop to smile, He did not mind the world knowing That night he was only mine.

Unfairness!

As the candles flicker in India Gate, Staggering crowd move with disbelieve and hate Chattering sounds of what to be done, who to be blamed, Is every time a different victim to be named? There must be smiling faces at a distance, Officers wearing the tainted Khaki and their assistants Wondering if protectors are turning predators, How happy they are being the creditors! With such quake, there is a lot of money that they make Being placed at easy shades, Charging innocents going to the lake With their concern very fake, To them only money can shake! Zoomed in an Audi playing loud music, Change in their attitude is very drastic, Nodding at the underage driving the car Probably being paid to have fun at the evening Bar At the red light we stopped, With the Auto wala I started to talk, Meeting his ends was his biggest worry, For his daughters marriage he was saving every penny, Came in a man with smile in his mind and stick in his hand, Rudely asking my Auto driver to park at the stand On ...

Give her 'her' life!

Pull those curtains down High time she sees the world One is trying to reach the moon The other don’t even know whats may? and whats june? Pull those sketches down Why is she always a symbol of despair? She is light but she can fight And she will fight, she’ll pass the night Cause its her right. Pull her out of that suffocated kitchen She has work outside And if its painful and itchy for men to do that They may slide and hide. And not take her for another ride. Pull ‘him’ out of  his delusion High time he has a clear vision Years have passed  And today she knows what is a constitution. Pull him away Let her just live her dreams once.. Shes sincere, shes hardworking She’ll manage her papers along with her son’s She will know about economy and astronomy And yet, She will be a sister, a friend and a mommy!
